A culvert bridge in Barangay Doña Helen, Libjo, Dinagat Island, has been rendered impassable after being heavily damaged by the rising river waters brought by Tropical Depression Wilma, the Municipal Information Office Confirmed.
According to the Facebook post of Libjo MIO the “structure of the river's rising water was damaged during the passing of Tropical Depression Wilma,” with heavy rains and flooding causing the collapse and prompting the temporary closure of the road connecting barangays.
The Libjo LGU, through the MDRRMO and partner agencies, has “already conducted an assessment to determine the extent of the damage and the necessary steps needed for its recovery.”
Residents were advised to stay away from the area as “the safety of residents was also denied and advised to avoid the area to avoid an accident.”
Authorities are coordinating with barangay officials to secure alternative routes and provide assistance while waiting for repair work to begin. Continuous monitoring is underway, with officials assuring that further updates will be issued once available.
“Let's all be careful!” the LGU reminded the public. // Gaven Mitra
