Bribery tops the list of perceived corruption in the Philippine government, according to a recent nationwide survey conducted by OCTA Research.
The poll identified bribery as the most common form of corruption, cited by 73% of respondents. It was followed by misuse of public funds at 66%, and vote buying at 62%.
Other forms of corruption noted included irregularities in public procurement (32%) and nepotism (14%).
“The consistency of reported corruption types across regions and demographic groups suggests that corruption is not confined to specific sectors or locations, but is widely experienced or observed in everyday governance and public service interactions,” OCTA Research said.
The report emphasized the importance of anti-corruption strategies that address both institutional structures and public experiences in which effective reforms must be responsive to the everyday realities identified by respondents.
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents nationwide, with a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
