Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan was transferred from the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital to a private hospital on Wednesday after suffering another spike in blood pressure while under police custody.
The PNP said Bonoan showed persistently elevated blood pressure and abnormal cardiac indicators, prompting doctors to recommend his transfer to a facility with more advanced medical equipment and specialized care.
Authorities said Bonoan remains under PNP custody pending the resolution of his motion for hospital arrest before the Sandiganbayan, where he faces a plunder case linked to alleged anomalies in government flood control projects.
Bonoan was initially admitted after his blood pressure increased following his surrender to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Camp Crame. He was later brought to the Sandiganbayan for arraignment but was returned to the PNP hospital after his condition worsened again.
The Sandiganbayan has postponed Bonoan’s arraignment to Thursday as medical monitoring and treatment continue.
