The Municipality of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi has declared a State of Local Emergency due to a critical shortage of fuel, including diesel and gasoline, Mayor Jasper S. Que announced on April 1, 2026.

The scarcity has significantly disrupted transportation, fishing activities, and the delivery of essential goods and services across the municipality.

The ongoing fuel shortage has particularly affected vulnerable sectors, including small-scale fisherfolk, daily wage earners, and transport operators, who are struggling to maintain their livelihoods amid rising operational difficulties.

Local government offices have also reported challenges in sustaining basic services due to limited fuel availability.

Under Executive Order No. 22, Mayor Que invoked powers granted by the Local Government Code of 1991, emphasizing the need to protect public welfare and ensure efficient governance.

The declaration authorizes the local government to implement all necessary measures to address the crisis, including coordinated response efforts and management of available fuel supplies.

The State of Local Emergency is effective immediately and will remain in force until the shortage is resolved or lifted by the proper authority.

The municipal government has pledged continuous monitoring of the situation and urged residents to cooperate with emergency measures to minimize disruptions and ensure community safety.
