A 7-year-old boy who fell into a river in Quezon City was found dead Tuesday morning after more than half a day of search operations, authorities said.
According to a report by RH Val Gonzales, the child was reported missing on Monday night after he fell into the Dario River in Barangay Bahay Toro.
His body was recovered the following day after being carried by strong currents to a nearby barangay, where he was found entangled in a pile of garbage.
Initial investigation showed the victim was chasing a roll of kite string he had dropped when he slipped and fell into the river.
Rescue teams from the Philippine Coast Guard, Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection failed to locate the boy on Monday night due to strong water currents.
Authorities said the incident occurred at the height of heavy rains, which caused the river to swell and made search efforts difficult.
