The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated over ₱156.4 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in separate operations in Davao, as authorities intensified their nationwide anti-smuggling campaign.
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno led the inspection of the seized goods at the Port of Davao, underscoring the agency’s continued crackdown on the illicit trade of excisable products in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to the BOC, the contraband was recovered from two warehouse raids conducted on January 6 and April 3, 2026, following intelligence reports and the issuance of Letters of Authority.
Joint operatives from the Enforcement and Security Service and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, with support from the Philippine National Police (PNP), confiscated a total of 182,821 reams of various cigarette brands found without proper import permits.
In the first operation, authorities seized 124,150 reams valued at ₱106.23 million, while the second raid yielded 58,671 reams worth ₱50.20 million.
The BOC said those involved may face charges for violations of Republic Act No. 12022 and Republic Act No. 10863, as the government continues to strengthen efforts against smuggling activities across key ports in the country.
