The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) are inspecting over ₱199 million in illegal drugs discovered at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) two days ago, according to a Monday report.

A shipment of 15 boxes from Canada was found to contain 28,000 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, colloquially known as “shabu,” valued at ₱192 million, and 4,000 grams of kush or high-grade marijuana valued at ₱7 million.

In addition, authorities also found liquid marijuana concealed within 20 towels and blankets, reported RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.

According to Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, the illegal drugs were stashed with personal items in an attempt to smuggle them through the airport.

Nepomuceno warned that such contraband will not slip past tighter security, aided by technology, intelligence, and coordination with other government agencies.
