The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has in its possession 30 of the vehicles owned by the Discaya family, the agency announced on Tuesday.
It is currently looking into potential tax liabilities and anti-smuggling violations in connection with the procurement of these vehicles.
“The Bureau of Customs (BOC) now has in its possession 30 vehicles linked to the Discayas, up from the initial 12 previously confiscated. We are establishing the corresponding tax liabilities to ensure that the Filipino people are not deprived of revenues rightfully due to the government. Those who may have violated anti-smuggling laws will also be held accountable,” BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said in a statement.
The agency has also taken into account luxury vehicles owned by officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), saying it will review their ownership and tax compliance and act accordingly.
On September 4, the Discayas surrendered 16 of these vehicles, on top of the 12 the BOC had managed to confiscate two days before then.
