The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has completed the delivery of all 732 abandoned balikbayan boxes at the Port of Davao, Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno announced.
The accomplishment forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expedite the distribution of undelivered balikbayan boxes, following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and with the support of Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go.
The initiative ensures that packages sent by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) reach their families without additional cost through a door-to-door delivery system.
Nepomuceno said the BOC continues to strengthen coordination with partner agencies, implement stricter policies, and enhance help desks and dialogue platforms to better protect OFWs and prevent similar incidents involving fraudulent freight forwarders.
Nationwide, a total of 35,476 balikbayan boxes have already been delivered, including those from Davao. Deliveries have also been completed at the Port of Manila, while distribution efforts continue in other major ports such as the Manila International Container Port, Cebu, and Subic.
Several OFWs expressed relief and gratitude after finally receiving their long-delayed packages. The BOC also commended the Port of Davao, led by District Collector Maita S. Acevedo, for its efficient coordination and swift action.
The agency assured the public that it will continue to fast-track remaining deliveries and urged Filipinos to transact only with accredited and legitimate cargo consolidators to avoid scams.
