The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a generally peaceful observance of Black Saturday (Sabado de Gloria) nationwide, as millions of Filipinos took part in religious traditions and family activities in an orderly and solemn manner.
From March 29 to April 5, 2026, as of 8:00 a.m., authorities recorded 59 drowning incidents, 91 fire incidents, and 455 vehicular accidents across the country.
The PNP noted that these figures are still under validation as part of ongoing monitoring efforts, while police personnel remain deployed in key areas to ensure public safety.
With Easter Sunday expected to draw large crowds to beaches, resorts, and other public destinations, the PNP maintains a nationwide full alert status. Officers have been deployed to manage the influx of travelers and provide immediate response when necessary.
PNP Chief Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. urged the public to stay vigilant and follow safety precautions, particularly in recreational areas and on major roads. He reminded motorists to avoid driving while fatigued or under the influence of alcohol to prevent accidents.
