According to the BJMP, the turnover took place at approximately 4:15 p.m. at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, pursuant to the commitment order issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
The BJMP said Romualdez will receive the same treatment and privileges accorded to other persons deprived of liberty, stressing that he will not be given VIP or special treatment.
“Rep. Romualdez will be accorded the same treatment and privileges as other persons deprived of liberty, with no VIP or special treatment,” the BJMP said.
The agency added that Romualdez will remain at the medical facility until he is cleared for discharge.
Upon medical clearance and an order from the court, the former House Speaker will be transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory in Payatas, Quezon City.
The custody transfer follows the Sandiganbayan’s issuance of a commitment order against Romualdez in connection with the case filed against him.
