Senator JV Ejercito has raised concerns over a purported money-making scheme within the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), claiming that certain revenue officers and regional directors allegedly pocketed 70 percent of collections obtained through Letters of Authority (LOA).

During a Wednesday interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, Ejercito shared reports pointing to irregularities within the agency.

“Ayun ang nakakalungkot, eh sa akin, kung narinig ko 70% pinasok sa gobyerno at kumurot ng konti, eh ano pa eh,” he said, expressing his disappointment at the alleged misconduct where a significant portion of collections reportedly meant for revenue generation was allegedly misappropriated by some BIR officials.

Ejercito recounted cases in which taxpayers were charged millions, but receipts issued reflected only a fraction of the actual amounts collected.

“Halimbawa isang milyon yung hihingin, ang resibo 300,000 lang. Yung 200, 300,000, ganun lang,” he explained.

Another case was also cited involving a three-million peso claim, where only a 500,000 peso receipt was issued, and the matter was “settled” at that lower amount.

When asked about the possibility of a separate Senate hearing on the issue, Ejercito said, “Ang alam ko nag-sign na si Senator Erwin ng resolution to investigate. Mag-file din po siguro ako. Kaya lang duda po ako dyan dahil ako, dati rin ako negosyante, talagang takot tayo sa BIR eh. Ang takot doon, babalikan ka.”

This disclosure follows Ejercito’s Tuesday press conference, where he confirmed the involvement of certain BIR officials in the alleged scheme, highlighting ongoing concerns about accountability and transparency within the tax agency.
