Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Chief of Staff Atty. Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez confirmed during the impeachment trial that Vice President Sara Duterte received compensation income from the Davao City government in 2023 while serving as Vice President.

During Day 26 of Duterte’s impeachment trial, House private prosecutor Erwin Matib asked Garcia-Marquez whether the Vice President could continue practicing her profession and receive professional fees while also receiving a salary as Vice President.

Garcia-Marquez confirmed that BIR records showed Duterte received compensation income from the City Government of Davao in 2023.

The questioning focused on Duterte’s declared sources of income and whether receiving professional fees while holding the vice presidency is allowed under applicable rules.
