The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has collected nearly ₱2 trillion in revenues from January to July 2026, BIR Commissioner Charlito Mendoza said Thursday.

During an interview on DZRH's Dos Por Dos on August 6, Mendoza said the agency’s total collection reached ₱1.998 trillion as of August 5.

“For the collection for the month of July, nagsimula po sa Enero hanggang katapusan ng Hulyo ay halos umabot sa P2 trillion ang nakokolekta ng BIR. As of yesterday, it’s around P1.998 trillion,” Mendoza said.

The figure is 5.16% higher compared with the BIR’s gross collection during the same period last year.

“And ang ating koleksyon sa unang pitong buwan ng taon, kung ikukumpara sa unang pitong buwan ng nakaraang taon, in terms of gross collection, mas mataas po ng around 5.16%,” he added.

Mendoza said the BIR is also ahead of its collection target, recording a surplus of around ₱9 billion in gross collection as of August 5.

“The increase po natin sa collection for seven months is halos ₱100 billion. Over goal naman po, around ₱9 billion po ang surplus natin in terms of gross collection,” he said.

The BIR chief attributed the increase to improved tax administration, particularly the agency’s taxpayer-centered approach aimed at simplifying processes and making tax compliance easier.

“Ang bulk ng koleksyon ng BIR ay nanggagaling sa voluntary compliance. Kung kaya pinagsusumikapan po natin na maging mas simple ang mga proseso, mas madali ang mga regulations natin upang mas madali para sa ating mga taxpayers ang makapagbayad ng tamang buwis,” Mendoza said.

He also highlighted the agency’s enforcement efforts against individuals and businesses that fail to pay the proper taxes.

“‘Yung mga hindi nagbabayad ng buwis, sinasampahan natin ng kaso. Meron tayong offline kandado kung saan pinapasara natin temporarily ang kanilang mga tindahan kung sila po ay talagang matigas ang ulo at ayaw magbayad ng tamang buwis,” he said.
