The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Friday officially introduced P-pop girl group BINI as one of the country's newest tourism ambassadors.
During a courtesy visit to the agency's Central Office in Makati City, the nation's girl group was formally introduced as the Department of Tourism's newest tourism ambassador in the presence of members of the media and fans.
The appointment comes three days after Tourism Secretary Maria Bernardita 'Dita' Angara-Mathay announced that two P-pop groups would be tapped to help promote Philippine tourism.
The agency has yet to announce the second act.
According to Angara-Mathay, BINI's role goes beyond serving as a tourism ambassador, saying the group represents the Philippines on the global stage.
Earlier, Angara-Mathay said the initiative aims to strengthen the promotion of Philippine tourism by combining music with visual storytelling to create a lasting impression among local and international audiences.
"We want to combine music and images together so that you form a feeling that stays. That's what we're after," Angara-Mathay said, emphasizing the creative direction of the campaign.
She added that P-pop artists are effective partners in promoting tourism because of their strong influence and wide reach across social media platforms.
Following BINI's historic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California, United States, the DOT earlier said it was considering the group as a tourism ambassador.
BINI, composed of Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha and Sheena, has become one of the Philippines' biggest music acts following the success of hit songs including Pantropiko and Salamin, Salamin.
The group is to work alongside the DOT in promoting and strengthening the country's tourism industry.
