Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay on Thursday shot down claims linking her to the alleged kickbacks from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects, after being implicated in a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
“Nagugulat at nalulungkot ako na dinadamay ako sa mga anomalya ng DPWH. Walang katotohanan ang mga bintang sa akin,” Binay said in a statement.
She added: “Madaling magbigay ng mga mali at mapanirang salaysay. But my performance in public service has always been above board and beyond a shadow of doubt.”
During the hearing on Thursday, September 25, former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo testified that in 2024, he was contacted by Binay’s staff, Carleen Villa, who allegedly sought a 15 percent commitment from DPWH projects.
“I relay the 15% commitment to Engr. Alcantara. Engr. Alcantara collected 15% commitment or about 37 million which was turned over to me and which I then delivered to Sen. Binay at a house in Quezon City,” Bernardo said.
Binay has rejected the claims, saying they were meant to divert attention away from the real issues and those who should be held accountable.
