The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is pursuing the deportation of nine foreign nationals arrested by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) at Mactan-Cebu International Airport for attempting to transport more than ₱440 million in undeclared cash.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated that the foreign nationals will be facing immigration proceedings for undesirability, in addition to possible criminal and anti-money laundering charges in local courts.
The group consists of seven Chinese nationals, one Indonesian, and one Kazakhstani.
Moreover, the BI is also in close coordination with the PNP to ensure the proper verification of records and documentation.
"Immigration laws prohibit foreigners from engaging in activities that pose risks to national security," Viado explained.
"Once they face their criminal charges, these individuals will be deported and blacklisted from re-entering the Philippines," he added.
The BI assured the public that they are closely coordinating with law enforcement agencies to monitor and apprehend foreign nationals whose presence may pose a threat to the country’s interests.
