The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Saturday the arrest of a Taiwanese fugitive in Pasay City.
Chien Wen-Chieh, 33, was seized along Roxas Boulevard on January 28 by agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation - Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD).
Chien’s arrest stemmed from a mission order issued following official communication from Taiwanese authorities, identifying him as a fugitive from justice.
According to records, Chien was issued an arrest warrant on August 31, 2023 by the Taiwan Miaoli District Prosecutor’s Office over theft charges.
The suspect last entered the Philippines in 2023 as a temporary visitor but did not extend or convert his visa, making him an overstaying and undesirable alien, BI database verification indicated.
Chien is now under the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility as he faces deportation proceedings.
