Authorities arrested 76 foreign nationals during a raid on a suspected illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) facility allegedly used for online scamming in Cubao, Quezon City, on Monday, Oct. 12.
The Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) Intelligence Division, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ National Capital Region Command, carried out the operation in Barangay Socorro.
BI said initial identification showed that 74 of those arrested were Chinese nationals, while two were from Myanmar. The group was allegedly involved in online scamming activities at the time of the raid.
The operation was the bureau’s second raid on suspected illegal POGO operations in two weeks.
The foreigners are undergoing inquest proceedings and will face deportation proceedings under Philippine immigration laws. Those ordered deported will be blacklisted to prevent their return to the country.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the bureau would continue cracking down on illegal POGO operations and other unlawful activities involving foreign nationals.
"We remain committed to enforcing our immigration laws and supporting the government’s campaign against online scamming and other illicit operations," Viado said in a statement
