The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is investigating the reported fish kill in Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City.
BFAR Regional Office 8 General Commission Officer Christine Gresola said the agency has coordinated with the Tacloban City government and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) regarding the incident, according to a report by RH Jimmy Angay-Angay.
Grisula said a BFAR team has already visited the area to conduct an assessment and determine the possible cause of the fish deaths.
However, laboratory analysis of the dead fish has yet to be conducted because the specimens were already severely decomposed.
BFAR said it is continuing to coordinate with the Tacloban City government and the EMB while awaiting the results of the assessment.
As of Wednesday, BFAR has yet to confirm the cause of the fish kill. The agency said it will issue an official statement once the investigation and assessment are completed.
BFAR also advised the public not to consume dead fish recovered from the area, warning that these may pose health risks.
