The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 3 distributed livelihood interventions to salt farmers in Paombong, Bulacan, on January 13 as part of the Development of Salt Industry Project aimed at strengthening local salt production and livelihoods.
Assistance provided included TISA, a diesel-powered water pump, weighing scales, bakya, and bamboo baskets (tiklis), which are expected to improve productivity and efficiency in salt-making operations.
BFAR said the interventions would help enhance production processes, reduce labor constraints, and increase the income of beneficiary salt farmers and fisherfolk in the municipality.
On the same day, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new salt storage/warehouse in Hangga, San Isidro II, Paombong, also under the Development of Salt Industry Project.
The activity was attended by Paombong Mayor Mac P. Marcos, BFAR Region 3 Director Wilfredo M. Cruz, and representatives from the municipal and provincial agriculture offices, along with other government agencies.
Officials said the warehouse will support higher salt production and ensure proper storage and handling of iodized salt in compliance with Republic Act No. 8172, or the Salt Iodization Law of 1995, to promote safe distribution and protect public health.
