MANILA, Philippines - The Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prévot will visit the Philippines from 30 June to 02 July 2026, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Tuesday.

According to the DFA, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prévot’s visit comes after 33 years since the last visit of a Belgian Foreign Minister; and highlights the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Philippine-Belgian diplomatic relations this year.

Prévot is set to meet with DFA Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro in Pasay City this afternoon and is expected to discuss during their bilateral meeting the progress of partnerships under the Joint Plan of Action and propose new cooperation in trade and investment, creative industries, science and technology, maritime, labor mobility, information and communications technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

“The Ministers will also exchange views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual concern, including the ASEAN Chairship, and developments in the Middle East and Europe,” the DFA said in a statement.

Belgium is the 30th biggest trading partner of the Philippines in 2025, with a full trade figure amounting to 480.14M USD. Belgium is also host to more 18,000 Filipinos and their family members, the DFA said.
