A bedridden female senior citizen died after being trapped in her burning home in Sara, Iloilo, according to a Wednesday report.

Based on the investigation, the 69-year-old was resting when the fire started. Her brother, 62, managed to escape and attempted to re-enter their home. However, the fire had spread quickly, as the house, as well as four others, were all built with mixed materials.

The four other houses were also consumed by the blaze, which reached the second alarm, said Fire Inspector Jory Biliran of the Sara Municipal Fire Station in a report by Jocelyn Maque of Aksyon Radyo Iloilo.

Firefighters from nearby municipalities, San Dionisio, Lemery, Concepcion, and Batad, rushed to assist in suppressing the fire when the Sara Fire Station’s firetruck ran out of water.
