Beauty queen and model Skarlent Rodríguez, titleholder of Miss Grand Orlando 2025, has died following the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 25 (Philippine time). She was 23 years old.
The Miss Grand International (MGI) organization confirmed her passing through an official statement posted on its Instagram account, expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy.
"With profound sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Skarlent Rodríguez, Miss Grand Orlando 2025, following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela," the organization said.
"We extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all those affected by this heartbreaking disaster... May she rest in eternal peace," it added.
According to Venezuelan media, Rodríguez and her boyfriend, José Castro, were among those trapped when their apartment building collapsed in Catia La Mar, La Guaira state, one of the hardest-hit areas. Their families confirmed that the couple was found dead beneath the rubble after days of search and rescue operations.
"Sadly, they were both found dead... side by side, together until the very end," their family said in a joint statement, also thanking those who supported recovery efforts.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by their families to help cover funeral expenses.
Rodríguez was crowned Miss Grand Orlando 2025 before pursuing a modeling career. She was also remembered by the Miss Grand Florida organization, which paid tribute to her legacy.
"She will be remembered not only for her beauty and accomplishments but also for the way she uplifted others and carried herself with dignity and light," the organization said.
Authorities and humanitarian groups continue to respond to the aftermath of the earthquake as Venezuela mourns one of the victims of the disaster.
