Regular classes at the Batangas City Integrated High School (BCIH) will resume on Tuesday, June 30, following a suspension to give way to “thorough assessment” and the implementation of precautionary protocols necessitated by a school shooting threat on Monday morning, June 29.
“Following a thorough assessment and the implementation of appropriate precautionary measures, the school administration and the LGU (local government unit) assure the public that the school is safe,” Aida Gutierrez, the school’s principle wrote in a signed document.
Aside from remaining calm, the public was advised to heed only official announcements from the school administration, the LGU, and authorized government agencies.
The school appealed that students and parents refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unwarranted fear, confusion, and panic.
It also reminded its students that sharing threatening messages will be taken seriously and that anyone who does may face disciplinary action.
“The school also reminds everyone that creating, posting, sending, or sharing threatening messages is a serious offense. Individuals responsible for such acts may face disciplinary action and sanctions under applicable school policies and existing laws,” the school warned.
Classes on Monday were suspended after the school purportedly received a shooting threat through its Facebook page. The dummy account that sent the threat claimed to be a 10th grader who intended to target students from the 7th to 10th grades, according to a report.
The threat comes just a week after the tragic Tacloban school shooting that claimed the lives of three individuals and injured 20 more.
