Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte’s office has received the subpoena issued by the Senate impeachment court requiring him to testify in the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
Atty. Ferdie Topacio confirmed the development on Friday, September 18, saying the subpoena was received by the mayor’s office at 1:36 p.m.
“At 1:36 p.m., it was confirmed to me that the subpoena issued by the impeachment court to Mayor Baste has been received by his office. Fyi po,” Topacio said.
Baste Duterte was subpoenaed as part of the prosecution’s presentation of evidence under Article II of the impeachment case, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth.
The prosecution has said his testimony may cover Davao City government transactions involving Gencorp Industries Inc., a company declared in Vice President Duterte’s business interests.
The mayor is scheduled to appear before the impeachment court on September 23, although the court may review the schedule depending on the progress of the proceedings.
