Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte testified Tuesday that he had no prior knowledge of GenCorp Industries Inc. before the company was mentioned during the Senate impeachment proceedings involving his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Baste made the statement on Sept. 29, the 31st day of Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial before the Senate sitting as an impeachment court. He appeared before the court and was declared a hostile witness by the prosecution panel.

During the direct examination by private prosecutor Atty. Ted Te, Baste was asked about his reference to GenCorp in his Sept. 21 statement. Te asked if he was familiar with GenCorp Industries Inc.

Baste clarified that he only became familiar with the company after it was raised during the impeachment proceedings.

“When it has been raised in this court, but before that, no,” Baste said.

He later said his knowledge of GenCorp was limited to its mention in the impeachment court and the subpoena he received.

Te then asked whether Baste had any independent knowledge of the company.

“No,” Baste replied.

Baste also denied being aware that Sara Duterte had declared an interest in GenCorp in her 2024 and 2025 statements of assets, liabilities and net worth, or SALNs.

The issue is part of Article II of the impeachment complaints against the vice president, which centers on allegations involving false SALNs and undisclosed business interests.

GenCorp was listed in Sara Duterte’s 2024 and 2025 SALNs. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration records presented during the proceedings, however, did not explicitly identify her as an incorporator, director or stockholder of the company.
