Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte on Monday clarified that the city government’s contracts with GENCORP Industries Inc. totaled ₱33.26 million, dismissing unconfirmed reports claiming the deals amounted to only ₱14.32 million.

The statement comes amid the ongoing impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, where prosecution panels presented Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) records highlighting discrepancies regarding her declared financial interest in GENCORP.

In a statement dated Sept. 21, Mayor Duterte said 13 of the 19 contracts—which began in 2022—have been completed, while six remain ongoing. He specified that four contracts were awarded through competitive public bidding, while 15 were secured via small-value procurement.

He maintained that all procurement processes adhered strictly to government regulations and were listed on the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System portal, noting that GENCORP consistently submitted the lowest responsive bid.

“In compliance with government procurement laws and administrative issuances, all 19 transactions have been duly processed, reported, and published,” Duterte said, asserting that all city dealings with the firm were “above board” and urging critics to present verified evidence rather than politically motivated claims.

Duterte added that city officials were unaware of any personal interest Vice President Duterte held in the company, as neither her full name nor surname appeared on any official compliance documents submitted by GENCORP.

He urged the public to remain vigilant against deceptive information driven by political motives, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and public accountability.
