Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte arrived at the Senate on Tuesday, September 29, to testify before the Senate impeachment court in the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
Baste was subpoenaed by the impeachment court in connection with transactions between the Davao City government and GenCorp Industries Inc., a company linked to the Vice President through her declared business interests in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).
The mayor is expected to answer questions regarding the city government’s transactions with GenCorp and his knowledge of the company’s alleged connection to the Vice President.
Baste previously denied being aware of his sister’s alleged link to GenCorp.
His appearance comes as the impeachment court hears Article II, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth, including allegedly inaccurate or incomplete SALN disclosures and the failure to divest from business interests.
Baste had earlier requested additional time to prepare the documents needed for his appearance.
The impeachment court granted his request, allowing him to appear on September 29 and 30.
