Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga said on Wednesday that he was ready to face billionaire Enrique Razon in court.
This came in response to Razon’s cyberlibel complaint, formally filed on the same day before the Makati Prosecutor’s Office, reported RH 12 Milky Rigonan.
Razon lodged the complaint after Barzaga alleged that he had bribed the members of the National Unity Party (NUP), led by House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno, to buy their support for former House Speaker Martin Romualdez during the 2025 midterm elections.
“My fellow citizens, I will be taking the Enrique Razon bribery case to court. National Unity Party Chairman Puno has filed multiple cases against me, regarding my revelation of the hundreds of millions of pesos received by the National Unity Party’s candidates during elections from businessman Enrique Razon,” Barzaga said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
While Razon’s lawyer, Atty. Laurence Arroyo slammed Barzaga’s claim as “defamatory,” the suspended lawmaker responded that he would present his evidence before the court and in a privilege speech upon returning to Congress.
In his statement, Barzaga stressed that he will not be silenced by Razon’s affluence and power, and that he will persist in fighting corruption.
“Our country is controlled by wealthy businessmen, and Razon is the most powerful of them all. But good must always stand against evil, no matter how wealthy and influential that evil is for that is my duty as a trusted leader of the Filipino people,” he said.
“Enrique Razon may have all of our country’s wealth at his disposal, but he is poor and empty in the eyes of God. We will fight corruption until the very end, in the face of imprisonment and death, we shall stand against this evil that plagues our beloved nation. Let justice be done. God bless the Philippines,” he concluded.
Earlier, Puno confirmed that the NUP will also be filing a case against Barzaga for his “baseless, reckless, and malicious” accusations against the party.
