The Philippine National Police (PNP) stood firm that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections were under authorities’ control and, several incidents aside, considered “generally peaceful,” according to a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.

On Monday, September 14, at least seven separate incidents of violence were logged, with four killed and 19 more injured.

PNP Spokesperson PCol. Allen Rae Co declared these incidents to be “isolated,” rather than widespread, based on the law enforcement agency’s metrics.

“Ang tinitingnan po natin dito, huwag naman matupad but if it becomes widespread, that’s the time siguro that we will have to adjust our assessment of the situation, but these are isolated incidents in several areas,” Co said.

Meanwhile, 98.81 percent of polling centers in the region oversaw a successful voting process.

However, 13 precincts in Basilan had not yet begun voting as of 3:00 p.m.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) previously reported the discovery of pre-shaded ballots in the province, prompting an extension of the voting period in the area until 9:00 p.m.

According to the PNP, the delivery of campaign paraphernalia to the 1,186 polling precincts in BARMM had just been completed by 1:00 p.m.

Nevertheless, all precincts in Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and the special geographic areas conducted the election on schedule today, September 14.
