Authorities at the Manila North Cemetery (MNC) intensified security measures on Friday as thousands of visitors continued to flock to the area for the annual Undas observance.
Despite repeated reminders, several prohibited items were confiscated from visitors attempting to bring them inside the cemetery.
Among the items seized were perfumes, vapes, cigarettes, lighters, paint, alcohol, cleaning tools such as brooms, and even pets like dogs and cats.
According to RH Boy Gonzales, some visitors reportedly tried to conceal cans of paint inside milk tins to evade inspection.
MNC administrator Daniel Tan said the confiscated items may still be reclaimed after the visit, provided that owners present the stubs issued by cemetery security personnel.
As of 2:00 p.m., the Manila Police District (MPD) recorded more than 37,000 visitors entering the cemetery — a number expected to rise throughout the weekend as families continue to pay their respects to departed loved ones.
Tan and the MPD once again reminded the public of the strict ban on alcoholic beverages, sharp objects, gambling paraphernalia, loud sound equipment, pets, smoking, and vaping within the cemetery premises.
Security personnel and police remain deployed at key points inside and around the cemetery to ensure a safe and orderly observance of Undas.
