

The Bangsamoro Government has strongly condemned the ambush targeting the convoy of Akmad Mitra Ampatuan, Mayor of Shariff Aguak, which occurred on the morning of January 25, 2026, in Barangay Poblacion, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.
According to the official statement by Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua, “Based on initial reports, the vehicle carrying the mayor was fired upon. Mayor Ampatuan was unharmed, while two (2) members of his security escort were injured and were immediately brought to a medical facility to receive appropriate treatment.”
Macacua also emphasized that authorities are conducting an investigation to identify those responsible, stating, “I have directed the appropriate authorities to undertake a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation to fully establish the facts and ensure that those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law. Due process must prevail, and justice must be pursued without fear or favor.”
The Chief Minister extended sympathy to Mayor Ampatuan and the constituents of Shariff Aguak, affirming that they “have the full solidarity of the Bangsamoro Government during this difficult period.”
Macacua concluded by assuring the public of the government’s commitment to peace and order: “Guided by faith, the rule of law, and our shared responsibility, we will continue to work toward a peaceful and orderly Bangsamoro.”
