Former Ateneo men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin on Tuesday did not personally appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) amid a subpoena issued against him in connection with the investigation into the deaths of two Ateneo student-athletes.

Baldwin was represented by his lawyer, Karl David, who appeared before the NBI’s Homicide Division in his stead.

David said his client was not in “good condition” to attend the scheduled inquiry but reiterated that Baldwin is prepared to cooperate with authorities.

“We will fully cooperate with all the investigation ongoing and all the legal procedures. We take those allegations seriously pero we prepare to focus for now sa subject ongoing investigation,” David said.

The subpoena is part of the NBI’s probe into the deaths of Ateneo cagers Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, who drowned during a team-building activity in Dipaculao on June 8.

Aside from Baldwin, officials and players of the Ateneo basketball team were also directed to appear before the NBI at 10 a.m. on June 16.

The case has prompted parallel inquiries, including a separate investigation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said Baldwin also failed to attend a scheduled CIDG proceeding on Monday.

Meanwhile, ADMU announced on Monday that it had accepted the resignations of Baldwin and team manager Christopher Quimpo following the deaths of two Blue Eagles players.
