Baguio’s Session Road is set for redevelopment in 2027, with plans to improve pedestrian spaces, drainage and sewer systems, as well as traffic flow for one of the urbanized city’s major roads, announced the city government on Sunday.
The project aims to widen the sidewalks on both sides of Session Road, add loading and unloading bays, and incorporate bio-retention areas—for the absorption and management of rainwater—into the design.
Moreover the drainage and sewer systems along the road, which have deteriorated and are currently combined in some areas, will be addressed in the project, said City Engineer Richard Lardizabal.
The project was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its ₱120-million fund instead utilized to address emergency needs during the crisis.
Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong is reviving the redevelopment plan with ₱150 million in funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).
The plans have already been submitted, with the TIEZA finalizing its drainage and sewer components.
