The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has already submitted Vice President Sara Duterte’s and her husband Atty. Manases Carpio’s tax records to the House Justice Committee, rendering the latter’s petition to withhold these “moot and academic.”
This was Batangas Representative and House Justice Committee Chair Gerville Luistro’s statement on Carpio’s petition to the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC).
Earlier, the justice panel issued a subpoena for the Duterte-Carpio couple’s tax records, to be examined as part of the impeachment proceedings. With immediate compliance, the BIR turned the documents over on April 14.
Luistro said the impeachment proceedings on Wednesday, April 22, will center on the vice president’s allegedly ill-gotten or unexplained wealth.
Aside from the BIR, Luistro expects the Office of the Ombudsman to present Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) and the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s (AMLC) report on Duterte’s and her husband’s bank transactions.
