The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has subpoenaed Fr. Roberto “Bobby” Yap to appear on Thursday, June 25, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Friday.

This is part of CIDG's ongoing investigation into the fatal drownings of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

Remulla said the CIDG still requires a statement from the university to address what he described as “inconsistencies” between accounts provided by players and coaches.

The CIDG said Yap did not personally appear before investigators on Friday, June 19, due to Ateneo de Manila University’s graduation ceremonies.

"May graduation ang Ateneo ngayon kaya hindi siya makarating. We will subponaed him for Thursday,” Remulla said.

Remulla said the investigation into the fatal incidents may take another week to complete.

Earlier, Ateneo officials and coaching staff, including former head coach Tab Baldwin, coach Dean Castaño, and Ateneo athletics director Em Fernandez, attended the CIDG proceedings.

The university has been at the center of parallel investigations by both the CIDG and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

In a separate development, lawyers representing Yap earlier appeared before NBI investigators in response to a subpoena duces tecum issued by its Homicide Division requiring the submission of records and other documents related to the same case.

However, Yap did not attend in person due to prior commitments, including graduation rites for Ateneo students.

His two lawyers made a courtesy appearance before the NBI and informed investigators that the requested documents will be submitted by the following week.
