The Ateneo de Manila University community gathered for a Holy Mass to commemorate the 40th day since the passing of beloved Blue Eagles Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

The memorial Mass was presided over by Ateneo University President Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ, who reflected on the significance of the 40th day as a period of trial, remembrance, and renewal. In his homily, Fr. Bobby reminded the community that the occasion was not about moving on but continuing the journey of grief and healing.

“Even after 40 days, we are not moving on,” Fr. Bobby said, emphasizing that the Ateneo community continues to mourn alongside the families of Rene and Divine.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to supporting those affected by the tragedy, cooperating with authorities, and continuing its institutional response and review efforts.

During the gathering, Fr. Yap also announced the creation of the Blue Eagle Athletic Scholarship Funds in honor of Rene and Divine. The initiative aims to preserve their legacy by providing support and opportunities for future generations of Ateneo student-athletes.

Ateneo said the 40th-day observance serves not as an ending but as another step in honoring the memory of Rene and Divine through prayers, compassion, and continued commitment to action.
