Gilas Pilipinas Women opened their 20th Asian Games campaign in emphatic fashion, routing Kazakhstan 86-58 Friday in the women’s 5-on-5 basketball tournament.

Asian Games debutant Elizabeth Means and Stefani Berberabe combined for 34 points to power the Philippines to its first win in the competition.

Means, an American-Filipino basketball player, led all scorers with 23 points, four rebounds and eight steals, while Berberabe added 11 points, two rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

The Philippines took control early, building a 25-9 lead after the opening quarter. Gilas Women maintained their advantage at halftime, 49-32, before pulling away further in the third quarter, 76-40.

Kazakhstan managed to trim the deficit slightly in the final period, but the Philippines held on for the 28-point victory.

Gilas Women will next face Hong Kong on Sunday, Sept. 20.
