Gilas Pilipinas Women’s 3x3 team secured a historic silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games after losing to host Japan, 21-11, in the gold medal game on Friday, Sept. 25.

Making its Asian Games debut, the Philippine squad reached the championship match following an impressive run in the tournament.

Japan’s Yuki Hirashita led the hosts with nine points, while Sakura Horiuchi added eight. Quinn Dela Rosa paced the Philippines with six points and three rebounds, followed by Amyah Espanol with three and Kennan Ka with two.

Despite falling short of gold, coach Anton Altamirano praised his players for their historic campaign.

“We fell short. Honestly, I feel bad kasi I couldn't lead them to the gold,” Altamirano said, according to the Philippine Olympic Committee.

He also reminded the team that their effort and sacrifices mattered more than the result.

“I’m very proud of them, I love them talaga. You win games, you lose games, but at the end of the day ang importante is you gave your best, you left it all on the court,” Altamirano said.

The silver marks the Philippines’ first Asian Games medal in women’s 3x3 basketball.
