The Philippines secured its first-ever Asian Games beach volleyball medal as Khy Progella and Sofiah Pagara rallied past China for bronze Friday at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
The Filipinas overcame a slow start in the bronze medal match, losing the opening set 21-13 before fighting back to take the second, 23-21.
Progella and Pagara then held their nerve in a tight deciding set, edging China 15-13 to complete the comeback and claim the historic bronze medal.
The Philippine Sports Commission hailed the duo’s performance, saying the Alas Pilipinas tandem showed “nerves of steel” to complete the turnaround against the Chinese pair.
The bronze added to the Philippines’ medal haul, placing the country 16th in the initial Asian Games standings as of 2 p.m. Friday, with four gold, six silver and 15 bronze medals.
Also on Friday, Jesus Yape delivered the Philippines’ fourth gold medal in the Mixed Individual Virtual Taekwondo Gold Medal Contest, while Carlos Paalam settled for silver in the men’s 55-kilogram boxing event.
