Alex Eala continued her bid for a 2026 Asian Games gold medal with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win over Thailand's Patcharin Cheapchandej in the women's singles Round of 16 on Monday.

The top-seeded Filipino needed only 55 minutes to secure the victory at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The match was played on Indoor Court C after rain disruptions forced organizers to move play indoors.

Eala quickly established control, breaking Cheapchandej early and taking a 2-0 lead. She continued to dictate the match and closed out the opening set, 6-1.

The world No. 18 was even more dominant in the second set, winning all six games to complete the straight-set victory.

Eala, who received a bye in the opening round, will next meet Joanna Garland in the quarterfinals.

The 21-year-old Filipino is also targeting an Olympic quota for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. She chose to compete at the Asian Games instead of the mandatory WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing.
