Filipina archer Amaya Amparo Cojuangco secured a historic silver medal in the women’s compound individual event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Cojuangco became the first Filipino archer to reach an Asian Games gold medal match in the event after advancing to the finals at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square.
She fell to Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah, 139-137, in a closely fought gold medal match.
Cojuangco opened the final with a 28-all score and remained within striking distance throughout the contest before Ashrifah pulled ahead by two points.
The silver capped a strong knockout-stage run for Cojuangco. She defeated Iran’s Bita Asheghzadeh Oskouei, 146-135, in the quarterfinals before edging South Korea’s Park Jungyoon, 142-141, in the semifinals.
Her silver medal also surpassed the Philippines’ previous best Asian Games finish in compound archery — a bronze won by Paul Marton Dela Cruz in 2014.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) described Cojuangco’s silver as the country’s first-ever finals berth in the women’s compound individual event.
As of 11 a.m. today, the Philippines ranks 17th in the official 2026 Asian Games medal tally, with 19 medals — three gold, four silver and 12 bronze.
