Love Radio DJ Nicole Hyala reminisced about her viral interview at the EDSA Dos rally in 2001, describing her younger self as a she-ro.

In an episode of the Dogshow Divas podcast, the Love Radio DJ was asked about which version of herself she saw when the news interview of her participating in a mass protest resurfaced.

“The version that didn’t care about what other people will say. Ngayon kasi mas careful na ako…Ang dami ko talagang dinaanan na mga matitindi. Kaya pag dating sa mga political o kaya ‘yung mga issues na medyo [rage bait friendly], super iwas ako dyan,” she explained.

Comparing her younger self to the adult version, the radio personality said she had become a lot more cautious when it comes to speaking up on certain things.

“Pero nung nakita ko ‘yon [video], it was 20 years ago. Alam ko hindi ko talaga alam na it will ever see the light of day,” she said. “Aktibista ito, dinala ko ang Assumption [College] community sa EDSA [Dos].”

“It also made me remember na that’s who I am, na laging lumalaban. As a she-ro,” she added.

Before adopting the moniker Nicole Hyala, the Love Radio DJ was Emmylou Gaite-Tiñana. In 2001, she served as a Student Council President at Assumption College and was interviewed about her thoughts on the then-senators who were also alumnae of the college she was attending, including former Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta and Senator Loren Legarda-Leviste.
