Former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday denied reports circulating online that she was leading an alleged plot to impeach Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
In a Facebook post, Arroyo dismissed the claims, saying she would oppose any impeachment complaint that may be filed against Remulla in the House of Representatives.
“If an impeachment resolution is filed in the House against him, I will vote against it. Impeachments are fundamentally political, and a vote in favor of Ombudsman Remulla would be my response,” Arroyo said.
The former president said Remulla had been her ally since he became a member of the House of Representatives and had contributed to key legislative policies and oversight efforts during her administration.
“He became my ally when he became a Congressman during my presidency and did much valuable legislative policy and oversight for my administration,” Arroyo said.
Arroyo also recalled Remulla’s previous government service during the administration of former President Joseph Estrada. She said Remulla served as a Career Executive Service Officer (CESO) Assistant Secretary in Estrada’s office during the 2001 EDSA Dos uprising.
According to Arroyo, Remulla voluntarily vacated his post after the change in administration to allow her to organize the new leadership in Malacañang.
“Ombudsman Remulla was a CESO Assistant Secretary in President Estrada’s office when EDSA Dos happened. Rather than cling to his Civil Service security of tenure, he graciously vacated his post to give me a free hand in organizing Malacañang,” she said.
Arroyo’s statement came amid online reports alleging that she was involved in efforts to remove Remulla through impeachment.
