Actor-politician Arron Villaflor on Friday apologized for a recent post urging prayers for victims in earthquake-struck Cebu that drew flak from netizens.
The Tarlac Provincial Board member’s call for prayers on social media was an art card that included a photo of himself in prayer. Netizens were quick to point out that the photo made the supposedly sympathetic post appear insincere, likening it to “ayuda” or aid, displaying politicians’ names and faces.
“Humihingi ako ng pasensya sa mga taong sa tingin nila na hindi naging maganda ang pag-post ng social media team natin. We’re sorry, I apologize. I take the responsibility,” Villaflor said in a Facebook live.
He promised that he and his team will be more mindful of the content they post in the future. While he thanked the supporters who stood by him, he also acknowledged that “bashers” had a right to express their opinions.
“Sa lahat ng mga bashers, go ahead, walang problema ‘yan. That’s your opinion, and we respect every opinion in any (angle) of the situation,” Villaflor said.
“When will these politicians learn that plastering their faces on every poster doesn’t make them look sincere, it just makes their intentions look staged,” one comment on the post read.
“Parang namimigay lang ng ayuda with picture ng mukha sa plastic bags. Hahaha!” another user said.
Villaflor took down the post shortly after it was shared.
