Now back in the Philippines after a two-year stay in Timor-Leste, expelled Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. asserted that he is ready to face “anybody in the world.”

This was Teves’ response when asked if he is ready to face Pamplona Mayor and Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative-elect Janice Degamo, the widow of slain Governor Roel Degamo.

"Wala namang problema, I can face anybody in this world. No problem," Teves said firmly.

Teves is facing multiple criminal charges, including murder, frustrated murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms and explosives, in connection with the assassination of Degamo on March 4, 2023, as well as other alleged acts of violence.

He admitted feeling sad about being detained, noting that in the Philippines, even without a conviction, a person can already be imprisoned.

Despite the circumstances, he expressed relief at returning to the country and seeing his mother after two years. He acknowledged that even while away, he knew the case couldn’t remain unresolved forever.

The former lawmaker then appealed to the court for a swift resolution of his case, saying that if it is handled properly, it shouldn’t take long to resolve.

"Ito lang sana ang request ko sa Korte na sana mabilis ‘yung kaso dahil sa totoo lang kung tatrabahuhin talaga ‘yung kaso, sandali lang naman," said Teves.

"I trust my lawyers very well and I know my conscience is clear. So, ang sa akin lang, sana lang mabilis ‘yung proseso para matapos na," he added.

Ultimately, he admitted that his primary concern was his life and safety, hinting that this was why he chose to stay in Timor-Leste for two years.

After being handed over by Timorese authorities, Teves was flown to the Philippines, where he initially stayed at the NBI headquarters in Pasay City.

He is currently being held at the NBI's detention facility located within the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) compound in Muntinlupa.
