Government troops recovered an estimated P6.8 billion worth of suspected illegal drugs from an abandoned speedboat along the coastal waters of Barangay Harrison in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, on March 10, according to a press release from the Philippine Army.
Soldiers and Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAA) personnel from the 76th Infantry Battalion under the 203rd Infantry Brigade of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division responded to a tip from a concerned citizen about a twin-engine speedboat that had run aground near Sitio Agbalite. Upon inspection, troops discovered 43 sacks containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu.
Aside from the suspected drugs, troops also recovered a Starlink communication device, eight hand flares, three fire extinguishers, four batteries, and several pieces of safety equipment, including life jackets and lifebuoys. Authorities estimated the seized substances to be worth around P6.8 billion based on prevailing street value, although officials noted that the exact weight and composition will still undergo laboratory examination.
In its statement, the Philippine Army said the recovery highlights the continued cooperation between communities and security forces in preventing illegal drug trafficking. The recovered items were secured while authorities coordinated with law enforcement agencies for proper documentation, inventory, and further investigation.
