A training instructor assigned to the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division Training School has been placed under isolation while an investigation is underway into allegations of physical abuse involving several recruits, officials said.
Col. Michael Aquino, spokesperson of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, said the instructor was separated from duties as part of standard protocol to ensure a fair and impartial probe, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.
The investigation stems from a reported incident inside Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal, where a staff sergeant allegedly kicked and struck trainees during a fellowship activity late Monday, June 22.
One of the alleged victims, who declined to be identified, reported the incident and expressed concern over possible retaliation if a formal complaint is pursued.
The complainant said the trainees had been ordered to assemble in formation after a gathering that involved drinking. Some recruits were reportedly intoxicated, with a few arguing and others unable to properly form ranks.
The instructor, who was also reportedly under the influence of alcohol, allegedly became agitated and kicked several recruits, resulting in injuries to their ribs and sides.
Maj. Gen. Demy Zagala, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, said authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and will hold accountable anyone found responsible.
Further details have yet to be released as the probe continues.
