Quezon City 1st District Rep. Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde refuted the allegation that he profited from kickbacks in anomalous flood control projects on Monday.
“I categorically deny the allegation that I benefited from any contractor. I have never dealt with them,” Atayde said.
“I have never used my position for personal gain, and I never will,” he added.
The congressman declared he will be taking legal measures to dispel such allegations and bring those who have tarnished his image to justice.
His wife, actress Maine Mendoza, took to social media to condemn the accusation and appeal to the public to withhold criticism until the facts have been proven.
“Teka lang muna, those are baseless allegations. Please refrain from throwing hate and personal attacks at him, including me and our family until facts come out,” she wrote in a post on X.
“I am with my husband in this. Wala siyang ginagawang masama sa loob. He has been doing his best to serve the people of his district in Quezon City since the beginning,” she added.

On Monday, the controversial Discaya couple at the helm of several contractors connected with anomalous flood control projects implicated Atayde among a list of politicians and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials who allegedly solicited money from them.
At present, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is conducting a probe into faulty and fictitious flood control projects and the contractors that had cornered a bulk of such projects in recent years, such as the Discayas' construction firms.
